I am interested in prejudice and discrimination from the viewpoint of the target or victim as well as the bigot and also in why group members, even in ad hoc groups, favour their own group over other ones. In addition to discrimination and intergroup processes, I also have an interest in group processes generally, especially group cohesion. I have a longstanding collaboration with Karen K. Dion, my wife and colleague at the University of Toronto. Together, we have been interested in the correlates of romantic love, including personality, behavioural, and cross-cultural ones, as well as the correlates of attachment styles. We also explore social psychological factors influencing acculturation and facilitating immigration as well as the correlates of ethnicity in a multicultural society. I was awarded the 2001 Donald Hebb Award for distinguished contributions to psychology as a science by the Canadian Psychological Association.
